Art Deco?

Another frustration about the Betsy – it’s supposed to be an Art Deco masterpiece, but it really isn’t. Walls adorned with photographs and an infatuation with random books has devalued the building.

It’s not as though it’s driven by sustainability – there is nothing eco about the place. Genuinely, the owners have ****ed the hotel’s origins. such a shame.

We headed out down Ocean Drive.

I don’t understand why they have closed off traffic for about three blocks. You cannot get to the Front of the Betsy. Drop offs by taxi are way more complicated than they should be.

Valet services should be directly in front. Your bags whisked away by the bell staff

Proper 5 star arrival, make you feel special. Instead you abandon you car in a one way system half a block from your hotel and drag your luggage down a rutted/tiled sidewalk.

Yes.. It’s a bit snobbish.. but I want the theatre, the fun… The Betsy doesn’t have it (anymore). Shame.

Ocean Drive is great to experience, but I won’t be rushing back…

Anyway, we picked a Cuban themed hotel for a quick aperitif- we should have stayed and eaten there too… but that’s hindsight for you.

Jus had a vodka, passion fruit, Prosecco cocktail which was a perfect example of what a cocktail should be – you couldn’t taste any of the alcoholic ingredients!
I had a rum, mango based drink served in some sort of bathtub glass – this was a medium sized cocktail!

We settled the “check” and headed up the road to an Italian. Fancied something “simple”.

We should have abandoned the place when our drinks arrived.. if your mojito looks like an allotment- run!

Service was bad.

Room was Art Deco…

Food was seriously average.

Awful calamari
Buffalo chicken wings… bad…
Jus’ lasagne. Hugely average. Had actually wanted mushroom ravioli in truffle oil, but they had run out?!?
Steak thing… oh dear…

Back to The Betsy, with its awnings back in place.

Not a great meal. We will have to find a good lunch tomorrow as we cannot “finish” on a bad meal!

FYI, that meal was £150. Inflation here has massively impacted on food prices. I would say that US supermarket pricing has always been higher than the UK for normal foods.. milk, bread, etc. It’s even worse now.

So when you see the BBC slating Republican election campaigning, just keep in mind, you aren’t getting the whole picture.
