Home.

Gate area… this represents why the excitement of travel has been lost. Flat, white, unflattering lighting.. seats from a hospital A&E, carpet from a defunct Debenhams… We boarded out 787 Dreamliner more or less on time. Cabin is nicer, more roomy and has huge windows compared to other aircraft. We pushed back bang on time. I opted for the Aztec […]

Homeward bound

Last day was a bit of a drag. Late evening flights work well for body clock adjustment, but you spend the day trying to occupy yourself and manage your luggage. We had the car and everything fit in the boot (trunk) just fine. So we went for a drive. We headed out to the Florida Cape Lighthouse. Several cruise ships […]

Art Deco?

Another frustration about the Betsy – it’s supposed to be an Art Deco masterpiece, but it really isn’t. Walls adorned with photographs and an infatuation with random books has devalued the building. It’s not as though it’s driven by sustainability – there is nothing eco about the place. Genuinely, the owners have ****ed the hotel’s origins. such a shame. We headed […]

Shopping..

Penultimate day – normally a day of shopping… picking up requested items from Costco etc. however, we have already done most of that. Yet, there were still some crafting things Jus wanted and crafting in the US in on a whole different level to the UK. We went to Michaels first. Supposed to be good and quite cheap. Only found […]

Shelter in Place…

Well… our plans of ordering food from the really funky little Deli place went south… it shut at 4pm. Thank you Google for outdated information. Bugger. The rain was torrential. I was sent into the wild as chief hunter gatherer to find food. No point us both getting soaked! I stood under the canopy on the Collins street entrance waiting […]

Soggy

Had hoped to cruise the coast road today, but all the beaches are closed and people being told to keep away. Wind isn’t too bad, but the on/off heavy showers are difficult to dodge. The hotel has removed all of its awnings. Everywhere is dead… very few people around. Valet Parking desk has disappeared. Whilst requesting car out is easy, […]

Run.. to the second nearest restaurant!

We dashed out to the nearby Mexican restaurant during a brief pause in the rain. Lighting was weird. But food was great. Really good. We had coffees and cocktails (Jus) and tequila (me) for dessert and then stepped into a tropical storm… Photos don’t do it justice. Can’t see us at the beach tomorrow…

Not exactly beach weather.

Bit grey and overcast. Not ideal for the private beach club…so… Everglades it is! Texted Valet to bring the car round. It took about ten minutes to arrive. You heard the damn thing from a block away. Even driving sedately it sounds like a hooligan arriving. It’s just over an hour to the Everglades National Park East entrance. Miami driving […]

The Betsy Breakfast

Our room rate included breakfast – not missing out on that! Especially as the in room coffee is a disaster.. the machine is clunky and produces a dark brown sludge. Tomorrow morning, I’m going to Starbucks! Breakfast is served in a bizarre way. Reviews have said the food here is good, but the staff are clueless…. Everything tasted fine but […]
