Shopping..

Penultimate day – normally a day of shopping… picking up requested items from Costco etc. however, we have already done most of that.

Yet, there were still some crafting things Jus wanted and crafting in the US in on a whole different level to the UK.

We went to Michaels first. Supposed to be good and quite cheap. Only found a couple of items here. Annoyingly, as the item was on $18, I thought it’d be quicker to pay cash. no it wasn’t. Took nearly five minutes to pay as a manager had to come down and redo the till float as there wasn’t enough change. Argh!

Next stop – Hobby Lobby. Hells Bells…

Sorry, wrongly framed photo

Vast.. we drifted through this cavern of crafting. Picking up a dozen or so items and joined the queues for the tills. After half an hour we walked out having abandoned our trolley.

Absolute chaos.

A woman behind us – who seemed hugely happy to have a conversation in English rather than Spanish (we were in Haileah a big Hispanic/Latin community area) – explained that Hobby Lobby had launched its Xmas sale 6 weeks early. 50-70% off. Everyone had gone mad. Never had a sale for Thanksgiving or Christmas started this early!

What to do now…

Let’s head out towards the coast and drive down US1…

Traffic in and around Miami is horrendous. Amusingly we keep getting thumbs up and “revved at” by other American muscle cars.

Flood displaced ducklings?

Signs of Hurricane Nicole..

Fort Lauderdale

Some fancy houses just north of Ft L – Pomona Beach??

Some flooding still on coast road – ideal for a low slung sports car…

There is a huge disparity between distance and time in Miami. Reminds me of driving around of LA. If you ask someone “how far is Venice Beach” in La, they will ask you at what time? No one use miles as it’s meaningless. It could be twenty minutes or two hours?!

We trundled back to our hotel. Impressed by how quickly the state has cleared the roads. Footage we saw at 10am on TV showing huge sand piles on the road and rubble was gone by 3pm.
