A gentle stroll
These strip hotels are big. Just walking to the next hotel and back could be a mile plus. The walk from our room, through the casino and out onto the strip is a good ten minute walk!
We headed out to the Fashion Show Mall. As usual most escalators outside of the actual casinos are broken. They fence them off (because Americans don’t seem to understand that a broken escalator is simply a staircase). You then have to wander around a look for a different route up or down. Anyway, we eventually found are way in and walked around.
We had forgotten it was Sunday and the stores open late morning. However, the Sales offers didn’t look remarkable and there wasn’t anything we were looking for in particular.
We crossed over using one of the bridges to the opposite side of the strip. Much of the paint applied to the glass to obscure peoples view of the F1 had been removed.
We skirted round the Wynn and headed into the Venetian/Palazzo.
The Venetian was busy. Huge queues in the lobby. Apparently a big Amazon/AWS event is running “re:invent”. So the place was full of people with orange lanyards taking advantage of various hosted events.
I think the Venetian resort is one of the biggest hotels in the world, and it feels like it.
We decided to have an early lunch here in their version of St Marks Square.
We couldn’t work out if our waiter was Italian or doing an impression. The accent was almost a cliche.
Bread service with oil and balsamic, shared starter of crispy calamari (tasty but tough) and a couple of salads. Almost health food!
A couple of soft drinks and a bottle of still water and we still didn’t see much change from $100.
We headed back out via the Grand Canal Shoppes and headed over to the bridge to the Wynn to play the slots and visit what was once one of our favourite day bars – “parasol up”
The Wynn is a stunning hotel and feels quieter and more natural than it’s neighbours.
Jus’ had the luck today!
We headed to the Overlook bar which is the renamed Parasol Up. It looks similar, maybe more subdued and plush decor with some weird statues. The cocktail waitress came over to take our order and asked if we’d been before. We said, yes, but a while back before it’s refurb and we used to drink Sinatra Smash cocktail.
It’s not on the standard menu anymore, but they knew how to make it so that’s what we had.
I also tried a Brando cocktail
Bourbon and Malbec is an odd combination, but not bad.
It looked nice, but really you needed to stir it otherwise it tasted like two different drinks!
We headed back to Resorts World, stopping to use one of the Wynn’s restrooms.
Not often you get a picture of a urinal in a blog… but here you go… note the convenient shelf to put your iPhone or Beverage of choice!?!
Ooh well done Jus! I loved the Venetian when we stayed there. X
