US 1
Back onto US1 South – mostly single carriageway with moderate traffic today.
With no real plans, we just cruised down. The Keys have a disjointed “style”. A mix of suburbia, strip malls, bait shops, tourist souvenir shops, shacks, mansions.. in most cases the view from the road could never be regarded as pretty.
The bridges, both old and new, are impressive engineering.
Traffic and one way roads makes getting around a pain. Not help by a serious crash – looked like a cyclist had been hit, but they must have been a big guy as the car roof had been crushed flat…
We did the ubiquitous photo – albeit didn’t bother queuing in the heat for an hour to pose in front of it…

Looked like a cruise ship had docked as the trolley buses were all full and lots of people milling round.
We retrieved the car and navigated our way out of the maze and found a Winn Dixie supermarket – I’m trying to find a shaver plug adaptor to charge our toothbrushes!
Opposite was a Denny’s, so that did us for brunch!
We drove back. We had planned on visiting Bahia Beach, but the traffic was backed up to the highway. Guess coming on the weekend wasn’t a great idea.
Returned to hotel to relax with a cold drink and a book.
