Driving the Parkway

The parkway is a scenic drive from Virginia to Tennessee – we picked it up around the half way point.

Every few miles there is an overlook (large lay-by) with varied, but amazing views.

The road winds through the mountains, hundreds of miles. Some sections tunnel through the rock, others are concrete bridges tethered to the side of the mountains.

We left the parkway and head into the Mount Mitchell State Park. This is the highest point East of the Mississippi

Returning to the parkway, we headed to out overnight stop in Ashville.
